World Day Against Child Labour – 12 June

Amin’s path to empowerment amidst adversity

On the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour (12 June), we share the story of Amin*, a young refugee from Syria whose life embodies determination and resilience. Displaced by conflict at a tender age, Amin has risen to overcome numerous obstacles – from struggling to adapt to a new environment, to resisting the pressure to abandon his education and harassment.

Thanks to the educational programs like JRS’s learning support program at Nicolas Kluiters Centre (NKC), Amin’s dream of becoming a police officer in order to defend society from criminals and fight corruption is kept alive. Amin’s story reminds us of the importance of empowering children like him as we work towards a future filled with hope and opportunity.
